DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
At Design Bide, we believe that great design is both thoughtful and practical. Every project starts with a deep understanding of you, how you live, work, and connect with your surroundings. Our goal is to create spaces that are functional, enduring, and uniquely tailored to your lifestyle.
The word bide means to stay, linger, or remain. Our name reflects our design philosophy: we create spaces where people want to be and spend time. It’s about designing environments that feel welcoming, functional, and enduring - spaces that invite you to pause, engage, and enjoy the experience.
Our philosophy is guided by the belief that design should solve problems, enhance everyday life, and reflect the people who inhabit it, making the process as seamless, enjoyable, and rewarding as the final space itself.
OUR PROCESS
Our process is structured into clear stages, each with defined deliverables and a fixed fee, but we tailor these to suit the scale, complexity, and requirements of your project. This ensures transparency, consistency, and flexibility for every client.
We take a collaborative and transparent approach, keeping you informed, involved, and confident throughout the design journey. Every project is modelled in 3D, giving you a clear and realistic view of the space before construction begins. Throughout the process, our skilled team of consultants supports every stage, from feasibility and planning through to construction, ensuring your project meets regulatory requirements and is fully realised as intended.
PROJECT STAGES
Building Design
1. Project Initiation
We begin by understanding your needs, reviewing the site, and gathering all necessary information to establish a solid foundation before design begins. This includes a review of any town planning controls and local regulations that may affect your project.
2. Schematic Design
We explore multiple schematic design options and layouts, giving you a range of possibilities to consider. This stage also includes feasibility considerations, helping you understand how your ideas work within the site’s constraints and your budget.
3. Concept Design
Once a preferred option is selected, we develop it into concept floor plans for review and feedback. This stage brings the project’s vision, character, and spatial arrangement to life, enabling you to make informed and confident decisions.
4. Design Development
Your chosen concept is refined in detail. Plans, elevations, materials, and 3D models are developed to fully resolve the design, providing a clear understanding of the final outcome for homeowners and developers alike.
5. Development Application (if required)
Where council approval is required, we prepare and coordinate all documentation for submission. We liaise with consultants, town planners, and certifiers to ensure your design meets the town planning requirements of the region.
6. Building Application
We prepare detailed documentation for building approval, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements. This stage typically involves consultants such as a building certifier and a structural engineer to support your application.
7. Construction Drawings
Comprehensive documentation is prepared for tendering and construction, including detailed plans, sections, and schedules for the builder.
8. Construction Services
We provide support throughout construction, responding to builder queries and attending regular site visits to ensure the design intent is fully realised on site.
Interior Design
1. Project Initiation
We begin by reviewing the space, discussing your goals, and gathering inspiration to establish a clear brief. This ensures a strong foundation for the design.
2. Digital Mood Boards
We create digital mood boards that explore colour palettes, materials, textures, fixtures, fittings and finishes. This stage helps you visualise the overall look and feel and guides decision-making early on.
3. Concept Design
Your chosen direction is developed into detailed concepts, including 3D visualisation. This stage brings the vision of your space to life and allows for review and feedback.
4. Scheduling
We prepare detailed schedules of materials, fixtures and finishes, ensuring that every element is coordinated and suitable for your space and budget.
5. Construction Drawings
Comprehensive documentation is prepared for contractors, including detailed drawings allocating scheduled items. This ensures your interior design is executed seamlessly and exactly as intended.
FEES
We work on fixed fees allocated to each stage of the project.
This structure provides clarity and allows you to move through the design process at your own pace, paying only for each stage as you progress.
Fees are based on the scope and complexity of each project, and a detailed proposal is provided before work begins. Any additional services or consultant fees are always discussed and agreed upon in advance.
